World Wrestling Entertainment has been around since 1953. But it wasn't until 2002 that it changed its name to the legendary WWE, after the World Wrestling Federationlost a lawsuit against the World Wildlife Fundfor rights in the WWF trademark. The rebranding was actually a blessing in disguise, as it allowed pro wrestling promotion to focus on their entertainment efforts.

WWE provides us with a global identity that is distinct and unencumbered, which is critical to our US and international growth plans.”

Over the next 20 years, WWE has become a household name and can currently be viewed inmore than 1 billion homes around the world, broadcast in 30 different languages. Aside from producing some of the world's top professional wrestlers, stars like John Cena and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson have also become highly successful actors, giving WWE an even larger cultural web.

But for die-hard WWE fans, it's all about kayfabe and wrestling, and in the nearly 70 years since the promotion launched, there have been some exciting characters to watch.
